7. Closure
Six months later, I ran into Ryan at a coffee shop.
He apologized. Asked questions. Tried to read my life from my smile.
“Are you rich?” he blurted out.
I didn’t answer.
I didn’t need to.
I walked away whole.
8. And Then the Bank Called Again
One year later, my phone rang.
“Mrs. Carter,” a Treasury agent said, “we’ve uncovered additional documents your father sealed. He intended them for you—when you were ready.”
“What kind of documents?”
A pause.
“The kind that will change what you think you know about him. And the program he helped create.”
