I collapsed to my knees during an asthma attack, fighting for air while my younger sister held my inhaler just out of reach. She smirked and said, “Gasp, loser.” My parents stood by and did nothing. Today, in court, when the judge said, “Before we begin, let’s watch a family video,” she started shaking—and then screaming.

“Along with the video, we recovered email archives automatically copied from the old family computer at the time the DVD was burned.” She clicked a button, and the first email appeared on the screen.

Diane Brooks to Camille:
“Delete the video and don’t mention it to Grandma. We need to keep up appearances.”

A murmur rippled across the room.

Another click.

Camille to Diane:
“I told her Lena refused to come downstairs because she was being difficult again. She bought it.”

Gasps.
