The lie began to unravel quietly.
The evaluation cited in the restraining order had been based on a single remote consultation. The transfer of assets occurred within hours of that call. Emails surfaced showing Rebecca’s father coordinating with an accountant before any legal filing took place.
“Judges don’t like being played,” Claire said when she showed us the evidence. “Especially not by people who assume their influence will cover the seams.”
The hearing came faster than Andrew expected. He barely slept the night before, pacing the room while I watched the city lights flicker outside the window.
“I’m scared,” he admitted, voice low. “What if they win again?”
