I nodded, unable to speak for a second.
“Tell her she was right,” I finally managed.
After he left, the kids exploded.
“Do we get our own rooms?”
“Can we move tomorrow?”
“Can we have a dog?”
I laughed through tears.
“One thing at a time,” I said. “We have to talk to the lawyer.
We have to see the house. But yeah. Things are going to change.”
That night, after they finally fell asleep, I sat alone at our wobbly kitchen table with the letter in front of me.
I read it again.
