is she okay?! Where is she?!”
He hesitated, looked down at the floor, then took out his phone. “Give me your number.
I’ll call you.”
That night, I didn’t sleep. I sat in a hotel room, staring at the phone. I jumped at every buzz and every noise in the hallway.
But nothing came.
I’d decided to stay in the city instead of going back home because this was the biggest and surest lead I’d had in my daughter’s disappearance.
I was going to stay put for as long as I could.
