Aaron stiffened.
“Director Kline,” he said quickly, “this is just a misunderstanding.”
The woman ignored him and walked toward me instead, placing a steady hand near my elbow without touching, offering support without presumption.
“Are you alright?” she asked.
I nodded slowly.
“She pushed me,” I said. “I’m not sure if—”
“That’s enough,” Director Kline said calmly, turning to face the other woman.
“Ms. Rowe, I believe we discussed maintaining appropriate conduct on site.”
Ms. Rowe scoffed.
“She’s unstable,” she said. “I was trying to escort her out.”
Director Kline’s gaze hardened.
“Clara,” she said, returning her attention to me, “do you want to explain why you’re here?”
I took a breath.
“I’m Aaron’s wife,” I said.
