3. Underlying Health Conditions
Certain medical conditions can silently worsen sarcopenia, including:
- Diabetes
- Thyroid disorders
- Chronic inflammation
- Neurological conditions
These conditions may speed up muscle breakdown, sometimes without obvious warning signs.
Early Warning Signs You Shouldn’t Ignore
You don’t need special equipment to notice early signs of muscle decline. Pay attention if you experience:
- Difficulty standing up from a chair without using your arms
- Shortness of breath after climbing one flight of stairs
- Arms or thighs that appear thinner or feel less firm
- Balance problems, frequent stumbles, or unexplained fatigue
If several of these symptoms apply to you, a conversation with your healthcare provider can help determine whether further evaluation is needed.
