“I was scared. I didn’t know how to bring it up. It was the hardest decision I ever made, and I’ve spent years trying to make peace with it.”
I took a deep breath, my mind swimming with questions.
Part of me was hurt she’d kept this from me, but another part understood her fear.
“We need to talk about this. After the ceremony,” I said finally.
She nodded, relief washing over her face.
We finished the ceremony in a daze. Our guests, sensing the gravity of the situation, offered subdued congratulations before quickly departing.
As the last guest left, I turned to Tim, who had been unusually quiet since his outburst.
“Does this girl have parents?
Have you met them?” I asked.
