Medical tests revealed the devastating truth: Lori had a large, aggressive stage 4 glioblastoma. Chris reflected on the cruel irony:
“I was hoping we were done with the life-changing, life-altering disasters where life as you knew it yesterday is gone.”
In the months that followed, Lori endured two grueling brain surgeries, a stroke, and a 40-day hospital stay, with Chris by her side almost every day. She returned home to face the physically and emotionally draining combination of chemotherapy and radiation. Though she fought with incredible courage, the treatments left her exhausted and often unable to speak. Later, doctors discovered a severe infection in her brain, necessitating yet another surgery.
“You feel like she’s just being tortured,” Chris said. “I’m not sure that the treatment for cancer in this situation is any better than the disease itself.”
